Helen Legh

I used to hang around at the radio stations in Milton Keynes from the age of 14. I was a fan, but I also wanted to be a presenter… a “DJ”! Then when I turned 19 I moved here while I studied at Luton University.

A bit random, but I was offered a free room in a friend’s house so I thought, why not? Most of my friends were here so it fit. Plus there was a commercial radio station here at that time, called Horizon Radio. So I hung around there and did some shows, and after a while I got the breakfast show there and ended up living in MK for quite some time.

I loved the feel of being part of something that was exciting – it felt vibrant, new, and modern. The first time I went to the cinema was at The Point – I saw Back to the Future in 1985 for my 10th birthday party. In time, I moved away with work, met my husband, but kept coming back here for my social life. Then it got to the stage when I just wanted to move back… so we did!

“I love the history. I love the link to Bletchley Park. I love the people, the charity shops, the green.. I would not want to live anywhere else.”

I then got my wonderful job presenting Breakfast MK with the BBC, which I did for 5 years before moving on to presenting Sunday Breakfast on 3CR. I’d always wanted to work for the BBC, so this was also a dream come true. We live now in Bletchley, which is such a fantastic place. I love that every house is different. I love the history. I love the link to Bletchley Park. I love the people, the charity shops, the green.. I would not want to live anywhere else.
